Day 6: Tue. Feb 18 – HOTEL METROPOLITAN YAMAGATA
This morning, as winter arrives, we'll head to Ouchi-juku, a town enveloped in snow, presenting a landscape that feels like a scene from a beautiful scroll painting. Ouchi-juku boasts a history dating back to the 17th century as a post town. Its picturesque streets, lined with traditional thatched roofs, evoke a sense of stepping back into the slow-paced Edo period. Next, we will visit Kojima Sohonten, known as "Toko," a sake brewery established in 1597. Founded by Masataka Taketsuru, the father of Japanese whisky, and his dedicated young team, this distillery is a testament to the evolving future of whisky. Each distillery’s setting influences the flavor profile of its whisky, and at Miyagikyo, you’ll explore the entire process from fermentation to distillation and aging while discovering the meticulous craft and innovations that shape their distinctive spirits. As the day winds down, we'll retreat to a hotel with natural hot springs, allowing you to unwind and rejuvenate in preparation for the adventures that await tomorrow

Day 8: Thu. Feb 20 – HAKODATE KOKUSAI HOTEL (Onsen)
This morning, we'll board the Shinkansen and head straight to Hakodate. Our journey takes us through the Seikan Tunnel, the world's longest undersea tunnel, stretching 53.85 km beneath the Tsugaru Strait. This engineering marvel is a significant part of our route, offering a unique travel experience as we move between the islands of Honshu and Hokkaido. Upon arriving in Hakodate, our first stop is Goryokaku. This star-shaped fort is extraordinary due to its pentagonal design, a rare architectural style in Japan. Goryokaku has five points, each serving as a bastion for defense, known in Japanese as "Ryoho." This type of Western-style star fort, also called a trace Italienne fortification, was the first of its kind built in Japan. Exploring Goryokaku provides not only a glimpse into the country’s feudal past but also into the adaptation of Western military architecture in Japan’s history. Finally, we'll return to the hotel to relax and prepare for the adventures awaiting us tomorrow.

Day 9: Fri. Feb 21  – HAKODATE KOKUSAI HOTEL (Onsen)
Today, let's immerse ourselves in the charm of Hakodate. We'll start at the Hakodate City Museum of Northern Peoples, which exhibits an array of artifacts related to the lifestyle of northern ethnic groups, including the Ainu. The museum displays fascinating items such as traditional embroidered and carved costumes, household utensils, and Yamato-fuku (also known as Ezonishiki), which highlight the trade with the continent. Next, we'll explore the expansive Hakodate Morning Market, featuring about 250 stalls. Here, you can savor Hokkaido's renowned seafood, including crab, salmon, squid, cod, hokke, sea urchin, abalone, and the highly valued Makombu seaweed. Be sure not to miss the Toi Tuna, famous from Tokyo's Tsukiji Market. Additionally, you can try "squid fishing" catch and enjoy fresh squid prepared on the spot for a truly delightful experience. Lastly, visit the iconic Kanemori Red Brick Warehouse. This complex began in 1869 with the first generation Kanemori Western Goods Store, founded by Watanabe Kumashiro. It marks the start of Hakodate as Japan's first international trade port. Today, while retaining its historical exterior, the warehouse has been transformed into a vibrant complex with restaurants and shopping centers, perfect for enjoying a leisurely afternoon.

Day 10: Sat. Feb 22 – TOYAKO MANSEIKAKU HOTEL LAKE SIDE  (Onsen)
Our day begins wonderfully at the Hakodate Tropical Botanical Garden, where we can enjoy the unique Monkey Onsen. Here, Japanese macaques relax in outdoor hot springs, and we're surrounded by around 300 species and 3,000 individual tropical plants. We'll see bananas and lemons growing, alongside vibrant flowers like bougainvillea, hibiscus, and angel's trumpet, which bloom throughout the year. Next, we'll head to Onuma Quasi-National Park. Our adventure continues with ice fishing on the frozen lake, where we can catch smelt and have them freshly cooked into delicious tempura. Depending on the weather and ice conditions, we also have the option to explore further with snowmobiles or take an ice buggy course, adding an extra thrill to our activities. After enjoying our snow activities, we'll proceed to our hotel at Lake Toya for the evening. The area around our hotel features beautiful illuminations, providing a perfect opportunity for a leisurely stroll. This enchanting winter scenery and the peaceful atmosphere will be the ideal way to unwind from the day's adventures. This tourist facility offers a unique opportunity to feed the Ezo brown bears, the largest land animals native to Japan. Watching the bears beg for food in various charming poses is an endearing experience. Then, we'll make our way to the town of Otaru. Known for its nostalgic charm, Otaru features cobblestone streets, historic stone warehouses, and gas-lit street lamps along the Otaru Canal. Its old bank district and other culturally significant buildings have been designated as historical landmarks, creating an atmospheric setting that captivates visitors. Tonight, we'll check into our hotel, conveniently located next to amenities like Aeon, making our stay even more comfortable. We'll be here for two nights, giving us ample time to explore the area and enjoy the local culture.

Day 12: Mon. Feb 24 – GRAND PARK OTARU
